League leaders Chelsea stayed at the top of the standings with a 2-0 win over London City Lionesses. Before the kick-off, all eyes were on the team sheet, looking to see if goalkeeper Hannah Hampton would start. Just days before, former England international Mary Earps released a book with negative comments regarding Hampton’s character. The Euro winner did start for Sonia Bompastor, who came out and backed her No.1.

Goals from Ellie Carpenter and Sam Kerr were enough for the three points. However, the visitors did threaten plenty with the score at 1-0, and despite the loss, they will take plenty of positives from their performance.

Both Manchester clubs continued to breathe down Chelsea's necks, picking up three points in their games. City managed a 1-0 win over West Ham United thanks to Aoba Fujino's first-half strike. Manchester United were involved in a five-goal thriller, beating Brighton & Hove Albion 3-2 at Broadfield Stadium. Jess Park scored and assisted in the game, with Albion suffering their third straight loss.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur also picked up three points. However, the game of the weekend belonged to Aston Villa and Everton, playing out a 3-3 draw. After taking the lead through Kelly Gago, Everton were 2-1 down with goals from Georgia Mullett and Kirsty Hanson. The Toffees pulled it back to 2-2 with a superb strike from Hikaru Kitagawa. Ruby Mace then put through her own net to make it 3-2 to the home team. However, it was Gago again who rescued a point in the fourth minute of added time.

SERIOUS INJURY TO LIVERPOOL’S MIA ENDERBY

In the game between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, the game was halted for around 15 minutes due to a serious injury to Reds forward Mia Enderby. The 20-year-old was rushed to the hospital after appearing to land on her neck after an aerial challenge. We are still waiting for an update on the young forward, but we hope for a speedy recovery for Liverpool’s No.13.

WOMEN’S BUNDESLIGA

Leverkusen and Frankfurt managed to stay near the top of the table over the weekend. Leverkusen defeated Carl Zeiss Jena 4–2 and remain in third place. Frankfurt are just one point behind after beating newly promoted HSV 4–0.

Bayern comfortably defeated SGS Essen 4–1 on Saturday. This brings their total to 22 points after eight games and puts them at the top of the table.

Wolfsburg, second in the table, faced Hoffenheim at the weekend. The Wolfsburg women, who went into the game as favourites, were under pressure. If they wanted to keep up with Bayern, they had to win. And win they did. Hoffenheim had to play without Cerci and Kössler, but still had a few chances to take the lead in the first half. In the 72nd minute, substitute Beerensteyn scored to make it 1-0 for Wolfsburg. Just under ten minutes later, there was a clear penalty for Hoffenheim, which Ampoorter converted. In the 87th minute, Swiss international Smilla Vallotto came on as a substitute and just four minutes later, she scored the all-important winning goal for the Wolves. They are now in second place, three points behind Bayern.

Cologne won 3-0 against Nuremberg, Werder Bremen defeated Union Berlin 3-0, and RB Leipzig secured a significant victory: the Leipzig women took three points against Freiburg, which allowed them to move up a little in the table.

LIGA F

There was a shock result in Matchday 9 of Liga F, with Barcelona’s winning streak ended by Real Sociedad. It wasn’t even a draw, as the home team took all three points thanks to a penalty from Edna Imade in the first half. Barcelona totalled 16 shots with only one testing goalkeeper Julia Arrula, in an off day for the reigning champions. It was the first time they had lost and failed to score since 2020 in a game against Atletico Madrid.

Despite the loss, they still sit top of the table by four points, with Real Madrid winning, pulling the deficit back from their perspective. They managed a 1-0 win on the road against Espanyol, an own goal settling the game. They are now level on points with Real Sociedad.

Levante continued its search for its first win of the season, losing 4-2 at home to CD Tenerife. The loss was devastating, as they had hoped to win at least one point. However, stoppage-time goals from Sandra Castelló Oliver and Iratxe Perez from the penalty spot meant they still sit on just one point after nine games. Atletico Madrid got back to winning ways after no wins in their last three. They scored four times in a 4-0 win over Alhama with Synne Jensen scoring a brace. There were also wins for Granada and SD Eibar, as they both won 1-0 over Madrid CFF and Deportivo, respectively.

SERIE A

AS Roma remains unbeaten on the fourth match day. The Romans won 3-0 against Inter at home in the Stadio Tre Fontane. They took the lead after just four minutes with a goal from Pandini. Roma was the better team throughout and scored two more goals in the second half (67th minute Dragoni, 90 + 4th minute Giugliano). It was Inter's first defeat of the season.

Juventus secured their second win of the season against Ternana. Ternana almost secured their first point of the season against Juve; the score was 1-1 until the 89th minute. But shortly before the final whistle, Cambiaghi scored the crucial winning goal after good work from Bonansea. Despite a weak start, the Bianconere are in third place, level on points with Napoli and Fiorentina. Behind them, Milan are in fifth place, level on points with Lazio and Como.

Milan beat Lazio on Saturday. After two bitter defeats, this victory is particularly important for the Rossonere. Coach Suzanne Bakker's women were already 2-0 up after just twenty minutes, with both goals coming from van Dooren. The Romans pulled one back in the 28th minute, but Milan were 3-1 up before the break. After the break, Lazio scored again (a brace from Piemonte), but it wasn't enough. Ijeh also scored in the 78th minute, and the game ended 4-2.

Parma and Napoli drew 1–1 – a bitter result for Napoli, as Roma were able to extend their lead to five points. Como and Genoa drew 2–1, and Fiorentina beat Sassuolo 1–0.

ARKEMA PREMIERE LIGUE

OL Lyonnes made it six wins from six with a hard-fought victory over Paris FC. In a game where both teams had chances, it took a great individual goal from Tabitha Chawinga in the 75th minute. The Malawi international raced away from a challenge in the middle of the field and finished smartly, earning the three points. The newest challenger is Paris Saint-Germain, who stayed three points behind their rivals with a 2-0 win over Le Havre AC. A first-half brace from Romee Leuchter secured the three points, with the loss to OL Lyonnes earlier this season the only thing separating the big two.

In third place, FC Fleury, who beat bottom-of-the-table RC Lens 4-0. A hat-trick from Emelyne Laurent, all clinical finishes in front of goal. RC Lens still sits at the foot of the table with just one point.

Saint-Étienne recorded their first win of the season, a 4-2 win over Montpellier HSC. The home team trailed 1-0 and 2-1 at points, but second half goals from Rachel Corboz and Sofie Hornemann who completed their braces for a momentous victory. Dijon beat Nantes 2-1, while Les Marseillaises and Strasbourg played out a 0-0 draw.

NWSL

A heated debate has erupted in the NWSL about transgender and intersex players. The reason for this is a column in the New York Post by Angel City defender Elizabeth Eddy. In it, she calls for gender testing for all athletes in the league in order to introduce clear rules about who is allowed to play. ‘The NWSL must set a clear standard,’ she writes. She proposes two options: either only allow players who were born with an ovary (as is currently the case with the English FA), or require every player to take an SRY gene test, as is currently the case with World Athletics and World Boxing. This has met with fierce opposition – even though other women's leagues already have clear rules on this issue. The club issued an official statement following this article.

“In response to a comment published on 27 October, we would like to clarify that while we respect everyone's right to freedom of expression, this does not reflect the opinion of an entire organisation. Since our founding, Angel City has been committed to equality, inclusion, and belonging. These principles will always guide how we treat our team, our fans, and our community.”

The fact is: there are currently no transgender players in the NWSL. However, there was some controversy in the past surrounding Orlando Pride star Barbra Banda. Banda was not selected for the Zambian national team at the 2018 and 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (organised by the Confederation of African Football, CAF). At the time, the Zambian Football Association blamed CAF and announced that Banda had failed the necessary gender test. However, CAF later reported that no such tests had taken place and that Banda was therefore eligible to play in the tournaments. Banda played for her country in the last Africa Cup – she is now captain of the Zambian national team and is Orlando Pride's top scorer with eight goals this season. All the reporting on gender testing is often ideologically biased and does not serve the cause.

On social media, Elizabeth Eddy, who has only played three games in each of the last two seasons, is now facing a vicious wave of hatred.

OFF THE PITCH

Former England international goalkeeper Mary Earps caused a stir this past week, announcing her reveal-all autobiography book, set to be released this week. The 32-year-old, who was a major part of England’s win at Euro 2022, has faced criticism from fans and Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor. It comes after extracts from the book were revealed by the Newspaper The Guardian about the current England and Chelsea No.1 Hannah Hampton, in which she criticises the England national coach, Sarina Wiegman, for recalling Hampton as her first-choice keeper for Euro 2025.

Earps, who currently plays for the French side Paris Saint-Germain, said that Weigman was rewarding ‘bad behavior’ by recalling Hampton to the squad after previously dropping her for being "disruptive and unreliable". Bompaster spoke out, saying it was disrespectful towards the current England head coach. With the release set for this week, expect more fallout.
